LATEST FROM THE WEST COAST.

The arrivals from the West Coast since Saturday have been the s.s. Lyttelton, from the Grey, and the Barwon and Egmont, from Hokitika. The accounts from the goldflelds appear to steadily improve. Our correspondent's letter from the Grey leads us to expect very extensive diggings in this provi ice ; and the richest discovery of gold said yet to have been made, is on the direct road to Nelson. The increased length of the days, and the coming flue weather, will certainly induce many diggers to travel overland, as the journey to the Twelve-Mile township has been made in ten days. By laying m a sufficient stock of provisions at the Howard, there is now no difficulty in reaching the Grey from Nelson. Prom the Howard to Noble's Gully, should not occupy more than six days. When the Egmont left Hokitika, a heaw sea was breaking on the bar, and she was unable to discharge all her cargo. The Barwon brought all her Hokitika cargo here. The Alhambra, from Dunedin, only succeeded in landing her passengers, and would have to take her cargo back. It is a pity that shippers will continue to run the risks of disappointment and loss which the attempted transhipment of cargo on such a coast entails. With a favorable sea, the bar at Hokitika can now be easilytaken, as ithae upwards of twelve feet of water.-- Nelson Examiner of Tuesday last.
