John Jordan and Bernard M'Donnell were charged with being drunk, and fined 5s each. George Greathead was charged with heing drunk and committing a nuisance in the public street. Fined 20s and costs, with the usual alternative. Rose Palmer, for being drunk and using obscene language, was sent to prison for one month with hard labourFrank Spencer, for a like offence, was similarly dealt with. Frank Spencer was charged with having, on Saturday last, stolen from George Greathead, at Barrett's Hotel, the mimof 10s. Prosecutor deposed that he was alblacksmith at Grew town, and had come to town on business. On Saturday evening he went to the hotel, and after paying for some drinks was accosted by the prisoner, wholbked him to " shout," and on his refusing struck at him and attempted to seize his change, then lying on the counter. He had given a sovereign in payment for the drinks he had, and received 19s in change, 10s <if which the prisoner took. John Q,uin, barman at Barrett's Hotel, said he was in the bar all Saturday, but did not recollect anything of the- occurrence. The Banch observed that the house must be ba&ly conducted, and requested the Inspector )f Police to look after it. The prisoner was eraantted till Thursday nexti for further enqui y.
