<TMr. Reading to ask the Provincial Seeretary — " If the Government have taken any measures for opening up the road from Te Aro, by the way of PolhilPs Gully, to a point on the Karori Road known as Baker's Hill, and if so what steps have been taken, and if none whether It Is the Intention of the Executive to place the same amount as voted last year, (namely £500) upon the estimates of the present session." Mr Ludlam to ask the Provincial Secretary — " If the Government are prepared with a plan of the proposed Provincial Government Buildings, and if not, whether they will be prepared to lay a plan before the Council before the vote on the estimates is proposed." Mr. Ludlam to ask the Provincial Secretary — " If the Government propose taking any steps to strengthen the second river bridge on the lower Waiwetu line of road, so as to render it capable of carrying an increased and heavier traffic thau is required for that district." vf*Mr. Hickson to move — "For leave to bring in a Bill to establish Municipal Institutions within the City of Wellington." JhMr. Welch to move—" That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to place on the Estimates the sum of £250, for the purpose of introducing into the Wellington Province birds, beasts, and fishes, with a view to their acclimatisation j. and that the said sum be placed at the disposal, of the Superintendent for the ensuing year for the rewarding of captains" of 'vessels and othergjHrho may introducfe V those likely to be of future advantage to the Province ; and that his Honor the Superintendent be respectfully requested to communicate this resolution to the neighbouring Colonial Associations, with a view to their assistance. "Jrft, Mr. J. H. Wallace to move—" For leave to bring in a Bill to amend the 'Highways Act.' " Mr. Borlase to move — M That, in the opinion of this Council, wherever in this Province any blocks of Government land shall be found, after survey, to amount to or exceed 10,000 acres, such blocks shall be reserved for small farm settlements. " That in the opinion of this Council onethird of every block of 1 and in this Province set apart as a small settlement, shall be reserved from sale for three years, as a commonage appurtenant to such block of land ; and that after three years have elapsed from the time when any such block of land shal| have been gazetted for sale, the reserved portion thereof shall be put for sale by public auction in suitable blocks,and in the principal place of every such small farm settlement. That in the opinion of this Council one-third of every block of land set apart for small farm settlements, except the commonage reserve, if any, shall be leased in blocks of not more than 100 acres for terms of 10 years, with a right of purchase extending over that time, the yearly rent to be at the rate of £10 per cent on the upset selling price. That in the opinion of this council it is advisable that all volunteers and members of any colonial force, who shall have served in this province for the space of five years shall be entitled to grants of land in the same manner
and proportions as military settlers vrerc formerly entitled." fl^Mr. Dransfleld to move — " That an address De presented to his Honor the Superintendent requesting him to place on the estimates the sum of £250, for the establishment and maintenance of ft Volunteer Fire Brigade in Wellington.'^ L Mr. Btokes to move—" That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to place on the estimates a sum of money sufficient to metal the road formed from the entrance of the bush near Te Ori Ori to the Taueru Kiver, and to continue tne road from the Taueru River to Castle Point." Mr. Bunny to move— -Ist" For a return of the strength of the survey staff iv the West Wairarapa district, with the costs of the same from the Ist day of January 1864, up to the 30th June, iB6O. 2nd, for a return ot the acreage surveyed by such staff during such period." A. Milne to move — " That his Honor the Supsrintendent be requested to place on the Estimates the sum of £250, for the purpose of making a bridle track between the Upper Jgangitkei and the No. 2, Wanganui.' r Jf The Provincial Solicitor to move — " That a Select Committee be appointed to enquire into and report upon the allegations and prayers of petitions on Private GrievancesSuch Committee to consist of Messrs. Hickson, Pharazyn, Wm. Milne, Jame • Taylor, James Allison, John Bryce, and the Mover."
