THE PEACE NEGOCIATIONS.

Mr. George Graham and the Bishop of Waiapu returned from the Kawau late on Saturday evening, and we understand that the former gentleman proceeds to-day to the Waikato with full credentials to treat with the King and Rewi. Mr. Graham will proceed first to Hamilton, from which place he will communicate by native runners with the rebels, and appoint a place of meeting. There i 8 likely to be some little delay in the matter, owing to the waters being out over the Ngatimaiapoto country, rendering all communication very difficult; but we understand that Matutaera, and the whole of the Potatau family, are most anxious for the negociations to be entered on and brought to a speedy conclusion. For this purpose the King's sister, Sophia, is on her way up from Kawhia, and the whole family have been collecting together. The case is different with Rewi, who, however, is said to be also very willing to tender his submission, and is likely to be influenced by the action of the King and his relatives. But it is rumoured that a brother of his was wounded in one of the late actions, and doubts are entertained lest that may throw some difficulty in the way of his surrendering. We believe that the negociations are not likdyt>be concluded for nearly three weeks to come, owing to the difficulties of communication which we have already stated above. — New Zealander. wm^ mmmm^ mmmmmmm
