WANGANUI.
Presbtterian Church.— The Rev. Mr. Hogg, minister of this church, having been for some time delicate, has been ordered by his medical adviaer to take rest anil change of scene for two or three months ; and in accordance with this advice he left on Monday in the Wanganui for Wellington. IlispulpU is to be supplied during his absence by the Presbyterian clergymen in the district, who placed their services for th's purpose at his disposal. Nukdmaru. — A white flag has been flying at the Wereroa. pah for a day or two past : but what significance, if any, there is in thi s sign, has not yet appeared. Two natives went out on Sunday to ascertain how the garrison stood, but we have not learned that the messengers— a man named Kereti and a woman— have returned. Tlure are now above 300 men at Nukumaru, including 230 of the 14th Regiment, and 70 Forest Rangers and Waikato Militia and a few of the Transport Corps. The Wreck of the Brig Lady Denison. —This wreck was sold by Mr. Wm. Finnimore, at his rooms, Taupo Quay, on Saturday, 17th inst. There was a large attendance, great interest being taken in the sale. The first lot put up consisted of the hull, with lower masts, bowsprit, and standing rigging* which wa« started at £30 ; and after some
very spirited competition, mor&~j»*ttettfarly between Mr. Thomas Higgie and Mr. W. Watt (of the firm of Taylor and Watt), vraa knocked down to the latter gentleman at £290. The sails, anchors, and chains, Bac. f &c, were put up in lots, and realised about £200. The ship's boat brought .£lO, and a variety of ship's stores and sundries brought £100 more. Total amount of sale, £GOO. Thb War Dance.— On Monday afternoon, tlie native militia, and others of the friendly Maoris, appeared at the Market Place, about two o'clock, and shortly afterwards, inconsequence of rain threatening, went through the wur dance a considerable time before the appointed hour, lesiving the ground about a quarter to three o'clock. The spectators were few, as they only began to arrive after three o'clock, and then to find that they would not be gratified with the treat anticipated. Additional Force for Nukumaru. — This morning, about 75 of the Native Contingent, under Captain M'Donnell, left town for Alexander's farm, and about 30 of the local cavalry force, under Cornet Kenrick, proceeded to the same destination. It is most likely that their ultimate destination is Nukumaru, but that is not yet known. About forty friendly natives accompany the native militia,
