NELSON COLLEGE.
The following Memorandum of the visitor was addressed to the governors of Nelson College, on the occasion of his recent visitation :—: — " To the Governors of Nelson College. " On the occasion of my second visitation of the College, I am' glad that proper deeds have been executed for the endowment of the scholarships, founded by Messrs. Richmond, Fell, Neweome and Stafford ; and I trust the governois will, at the earliest convenient time, appropriate and invest the necessary funds for carrying out tlie trusts conta'aed therein. " I hope speedily to receive a series of byelaws for confirmation. lam nw'are that the delay iv this matter has arisen iv eonsequetveo of the fact, that a meeting of governors, at which a suggestion of nvne, in the capacity of visitor, respect'ng one of a set of laws which had been previously submitted to me for approval, was to be taken into consideration, turned out not to be a legally constituted meeting. " I have to congriitp'ate the governors on the remodeling of the accounts of the Col'ege. " I have perused the repoi t of the governor?, and that of a committee appointed by them, in pursuance of a resolution passed on the Gdi April ; and 1 am pleased to learn that the governors have entered into an arrangement which is likely to attract a g /eater numbers of boarders to the College, and cause the boarding establishment to be much less burdensome. " I have received reports from the piiacipal, and have made inquiries respecting the progress and attainment of the pupils ; and I am satisfied, although the number attending the school at present is much smaller than might be expected, that, as far as the existing circumstances [of the two provinces and the colony will permit, the intentions of the founders are substantially carried out, and that a higher standard of attainment will be reached ere long. (Signed) " Alexandeu Johnston, " Visitor. " Nelson, May 30, 1865."
