H.M.S. Sandfiy, Capt. Fox, which arrived here this morning at eleven o'clock, left Manakau on 26th May, with a company of the Colonial Defence Force on board, and arrived at Waiknlo the same day. Left Waikato on th.. 27th for Taranakj, where she arrived on the 28tb, nnd transhipped the men of the Defence Fence into the Ahuriri for conveyance- to Wanganui. After shipping some commissariat stores and a number of military settlers, proceeded to Opunnki, arriving there on the 29th, and landing passengers and cargo. The Sandfly then left for this port. Captain Fox reports experiencing heavy weather from the time of leaving Manakau. A special general meeting of the Chamber of Commerce is summoned for to morrow at three o'clock, <it the office of Messrs. Bethune and Hunter, for the consideration of the Attorney General's letter, and the alteration in the Customs' Tariff. A meeting of the City of Wellington Band of Hope was held last night (the 30th May), in the Wesley an School Room, 50 children were present. Mr. Tolley in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Messrs. Gudber, Harding, and Levy. The amount collected at the Penny Bank was £9 10s. Town Board. — The usual fortnightly meeting of the members of the Town Board was held yesierday afternoon. Messrs. Pearce, Bragg, Buruea, Fiimmer, Pharazyn, Hart, Borlase and Jucka, were present, and a number of letters were read and commented on.
