The s,s. Egmonf, Captain Hagley, left Auckland on the lrfth, Tauranga on the 19th, Napier on the 21st, and arrived here at eleven this morning. Captain Hagley reports experiencing a heavy southerly gale. The Hon. Air. Mantell is a passenger by the Egin nt. The P.N.Z. nnd A.R.M. Co.'s s.s. Prince Alfred, Capt. Thomas Randall, luft Port Chalmers at half -past three p m. on the 20th, pass-ed the Heads at four p.m. ; experienced thence to Bank's Peninsula strong S.W. iralea with frequent squalls of rain and occasional flashes of lightning ; arrived at Port Lytelton at 8.35 on the 21st, thus making the passage in 16 hours 40 minutea— the quickest on record. The English mail was not telegraphed at the Bluff, when the Prince Alfred left Port Chalmers. Captain Randall reports that during Ins stay at Port C- aimers the barometer wa* at times unnaually low, being on the I7ih 28.55, wind ranging from N, to N.E. with heavys,qialls. Ou the 18th,the wind veered to S.W , with frequent heavj squalls of wind and rain, and occasional 'mil storms such weather continuing until the departure °t the IMuee Alfred. She lete t Lytteltou at 230 p.m. on the 22nd, and arrived at this port this morning at 8 15, making the passage in 17$ hours. The Allhtmbra and Lidy Bird arrived at Lyttelton on the 21st, suiting again for their respective destinations on the 22nd.
