The Evening Post. SATURDAY, MAY 6, 1865. THE HAU HAUS AT WAIRARAPA.

Considerable excitement was caused this morning by a report that a body of Hau hau fanatics had arrived at Masterton, and ! that in consequence orders had been given to place the City Volunteers on a tive service, with a view to their marching thither. Every hour the rumour gathered i in its progres, and by the time we went to press it had increased to alarming proportions. We have taken care to ascertain the exact particulars, which are as follows : Last night a despatch was received by the Government from Mr. Wardell, R.M., informing it that a party oi Hau Uaus were reported to be on their way to Wairarapa, and were hourly expected in the neighbourhood of Masterton. Thtir arrival was talked of some time since, and on that occasion Mr. Dudley Ward, R.M., offered his services and those of the city police, if the Government thought it desirable to enforce the law. On the arrival of Mr. Wardell'B despatch last night, Mr. Ward's offer was accepted, and he was instructed to proceed to Masterton this morning, with Inspector Atcheson and the police, with power to call the Dvf.nce Force to his aid, and avail himself of the assistance of such of the Wairarapa Volunteers as mi^ht press their services. Six; policemen, thoroughly armed, went off this morning, and were followed by Mr. Ward and Inspector Atcheson, who will reach Masterton to-night, or early tomorrow. Ii it he true that the Hau Haus only number fifty or sixty, the force sent against them ought to give a good account of it- elf, as it will number nine policemeui (three being picked up on the rjute), twenty-five of the Defence Force, and sundry local volunteers. We expect to hear news on Monday. *
