LATEST FROM OKITIKI.
The Nelson Examiner of Tuesday last publishes a letter from its correspondent dated Okitiki, 6th April. Nothing of importance occurred at the diggings since he last wrote — no new rushes. The news from the Waimea continue to be pretty favourable, so far as present holders of claims are concerned. At Six-mile Creek, 2000 ozs. awaited removal to the port ; the banks bought it, but Government refused to provide an escort. News from Greenstone Creek more encourage ing than lately received — 250 at work, for the most part doing- well. Loaves, 5s each. From the Grey news also tolerably good, although greater portion of its population left for Okitiki. Packhorses being scarce, ! dogs are called into requisition, carrying light loads, some remarkably staunch animals being up to a weight of 30 lbs. Fox's Gully yields good wages, but is nearly worked out. fa£The survey of Okitiki township almost completed, sites reserved for " important public buildings." The first importation of Victorians arrived in the Albion on the sth instant. The Nelson steamer has come to grief, and is hard and fast on shore not a hundred yards , from the Storm Bird. p The overland route to Canterbury appears to be a failure, the track iv a horrible state — men and horses continually succumbing to the fatignes of the journey.
