WEST COAST GOLD FIELD.
The Superintendent of Canterbury has proclaimed the western p^rt of the province a pold field. The following is the substance of the proclamation : — #t Now, therefore. I Samuel Benley, Superintendent of the province of '. nnterbury, do hereby, in pursuance of the power and nuthority co vested in me as aforesaid, proclaim Mint part of the province of Canterbury bounded on tho north by tho River Grey and <h' soutlvrn boundary of the province of N -Ison ; on the west by the sea ; on the south by the river Wanvanui and a line drawn from its source to the nearest eummit of the inowv rmisre j on the eat by the summits of the dividing range, or Southern Alps, to be a ffold field within thp minnin* nf the act, to be called the 'West Canterbury Gold Field.' "
