RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. YESTERDAY. (Before C. C. R. Ward, Esq., R.M. )

Gilbert Pickett, of Messrs. Pickett & Co., drapers, &c, brought up William Payne, a tiiilor, residing in Maori-row, on a charge of larceny. It appeared from the evidence that certain cloth goods had been given to the prisoner to make up, and that instead of ret irning »he clothes upon which he had been thus employed, he sold them on his own account. Mr. G. Pickett's evidence was conc'usive, and the prisoner was fully committed for trial at the coming sessions. There were a few minor cases of debt, which were adjourned, and one case of assault, in which the parties did not appear.
