ARRIVAL OF SIR GEORGE GREY.
This morning, at seven o'clock, H.M.S. Esk, came into harbour, and shortly after his Excellency disembarked and proceeded te Government House, accompanied by his private secretary. Owing to the early hour of debarkation and the uncertainty of Sir George's movements, but few persons were assembled to greet the arrival of the Governor, and those only workmen on their way to business, who, however, respectfully saluted his Excellency.
The meeting of Mr. Masters' friends, convened to assemble yesterday evming at Barry's Market Hall, was very badly attended. After some few words from Con. Croft, the representative of the recreant Masters, the meeting was adjourned until the 7th instant. The complaint with reference to certain alterations requisite for the raised dais on which the judge's throne stands, having not been attended to, his Honor strongly animadverted on the negligence of the parties on whom the onus rests, and desired it shou'd be seen to to-morrow. That some alteration is necessary is very clear, as his Honor very nearly fell over, which was the occasion at the last assizes. On Mr. Morgan's return to his house last night, he was considerably astonished at finding a person Bitting down writing apparently in a great hurry. On entering, he dicovered the intruder to be a man generally supposed to be insane, who seemed much excited. Mr. Morgan applied at the station, and two policemen removed his unwished for
guest to the station. From thence he will in all probability be sent to the hospital. H.M.S. Eclipse will perform the duties of guard ship while in port, bonrrling the arrivjils and departures. Only vessels of a certain class, however, are to receive the attention ; the small fry of cutters and top-sail schooners escape.
