tendent; I shall endeavor always to act up to the principles and policy I have now and on former occasions expressed. I wish to give you a chance to endeavor to carry into effect true constitutional principles. I shall, if i elected, not dictate to or domineer over the Council. If it should happen that I could not agree with an Executive chosen from the Council in any important matter, I should immediately resign and appeal to you. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, C. B. BORLASE. Wellington, Feb. 18, 1865. REQUISITION TO MR. JOSEPH MASTERS. WE, the undersigned, Electors of Wellington, request that you will allow yourself to be put in nomination as a Candidate for the Superintendency, at the ensuing election. In addressing this requisition to you, we are actuated by the sentiment that no other > man but yourself could be found in the Province, whose sterling worth, irreproachable honesty, spotless character, and consistent political career, so eminently point him out as the choice of the people for such an important trust. The sentiments expressed by you at a late Lyceum meeting, the spontaneous and decided assurance that you then gave, of inaugurating a sweeping and thorough reform in the body politic, have convinced us of this ; and we therefore ask you frankly to come forward. Neither in Dr. Featherston, nor in Mr. Borlase, have we a candidate such as the present emergency demands. It is to Joseph. Masters that we look, to save the Province from ruin, and it is in his support we will put forth our utmost efforts. We remain, Sir, Yours, &0., J. Smith. W. Houghton. G. Billman J. Boutell R.
