Commercial business is brisker and im proving. Credit fully restored. j New York advices to 13th December 1 state that General Sherman is besieging ! Savannah, but the Confederates have defeated the Federals in several minor engagements. President Lincoln denies having issued an order to General Dix, authorising liim to invade the Canadian frontier. The Federals, under General Thomas, have been thoroughly defeated at Nashville, with heavy loss. Five thousand prisoners and thirty guns were captured. Consuls for money, 89^; for account, 89| Eank rate of discount, six per cent. 4.
