The sth of November did not pass this year without the recurrence of those disturbances which used at one time to be as regular as they were virulent, on this night' in particular, between the " town" and members of the University at Oxford. The magistrates have beeti occupied in disposing of numerous cases of assault preferred against members of the { * town" party j while the undergraduates and an I "gown" offenders were under the juris- i dhtlon of the vice-chancellor and proctor, i Amongst the prisoners in the last category were a noble duke and and several other yomg noblemen. — Several serious accidents tiltj took place at Birmingham on the same dty. By an explosion of gunpowder one boy hid his clothes, on ths left side completely blown off, and his left arm and side were very bidly burned. Another boy received a Severe wound from a cannon.
