SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIZE GIVING.
The Presbyterian Hall was filled to overflowing on Friday evening, the occasion being the annual Sunday j School concert and prize giving, an event of interest both to children and adults. During the evening an excellent programme was presented, the following taking part: Chorus by the junior girls; song, Billie Eggelton; chorus, "Ten Japanese Girls," by junior girls; chorus, "Umbrellas," Intermediate girls; "The Huntsmen," Intermediate boys; song, Noeline Bennett; chorus, "Fairyland," girls; duet, Noeline and Patty Bennett. After the first part of the evening's programme the Rev. J. C. Young, of Leeston, in his usual pleasing style, addressed the Sunday School pupils, dealing with the formation of character in youth and the necessity for courage and initiative to push forward with vigorous effort towards high ideals. The second part of the programme opened with a duet by Mrs W. Eggelton and Miss B. Eggelton; song, Mr Anderson; song, Mrs Mackie; chorus by choir; song, Miss B. Eggelton. Not the least interesting part of the evening's programme was the prizegiving by Rev. Hannah and Mr A. McPherson, the superintendent. Each child received a prize. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr A. McPherson (superintendent) for the enthusiastic manner in which he carries out his duties from year to year, also to former teachers, Miss N. Beamsley, Messrs A. Learmont and W. R. Lockhead, and to Misses Betty Eggetlon, Olive Howatson and Sylvia Bennett. Much credit is also due to Misses Gwyneth and Kimai Greenall for training the children for the concert, and to the ladies who provided supper. A hearty vote of thanks was also passed to Rev. J. C. Young for his interesting address to the children.
