POOR RECEPTION
THE MOST PROBABLE CAUSE
Poor reception is often duo to an indifferent • earth • connexion. Earth plates must be of large area, preferably of copper and well packed round with fine coke or moist soil, the connexion to the set being as short and direct as possible. A poor earth connexion is provided by dry, sandy soil, and a counterpoise, consisting of several wires eight feet from the ground beneath the aerial and bunched together at one end, is to be preferred. These wires must be insulated from the ground and other grounded objects just as carefully as the aerial itself.
