THE STARRY HEAVENS
SOLAR SYSTEM EXPLAINED.
INTERESTING LECTURES
There were good audiences at Southbridge Methodist Church on Tuesday evening and at Wesley Hall, Leeston, on Wednesday when the Rev. B. Dudley, F.R.A.S., lectured on Astronomy and showed some excellent pictures of the starry heavens. In a remarkably interesting and informative way the lecturer brought for th out of the treasury of his well-informed mind things both new and old and carried his hearers with him from start to finish.
He gave a brief account of the size and physical features of the sun including references to the recent total eclipse as seen in England. The lunar phases, craters and some theories were illustrated and described. The several planets of the solar system, meteors and comets, individual stars, star clusters and nebulae were screened and valuable information concerning these objects was given. He also illustrated and explained the Milky Way as an enormous spiral.. During the lecture the earth was shown as a planet in the skies, a somewhat
novel idea to some who had not studied astronomy. The lecturer was heartily thanked both, at Southbridge and at Leeston.
