St Patrick's Day

LOCAL CELEBRATIONS.

St. Patrick's Day, the anniversary of the patron saint of Inland, was observed in a: fitting manner in this "district, in conimoii , with most other districts throughout vthe Dominion. The congregations of the Southbridgeand Leeston Catholic Churches held- then ; , annual eombiiied picnic at the Ellesmere Domain. A very large gathering, representative of all .parts of the district, and including many non-Catholics, assembled at the domain and a very enjoyable time was spent. During part of the morning a strong wind blew and threatened to mar to some extent the enjoyment of the outing, but at noon the wind ceased and through out the afternoon there was just a light easterly breeze. This annual picnic is held primarily for the purpose of giving the children a good time. The young folk turned out in force on Thursday and enjoyed themselves to their hearts' content running races, playing games and enjoying r ... the good things their parents had provided for them- The parish priest, Rev Father Creed, took a vci-y active part in the day's proceedings and sparedno effort to give everybody a pleasant outing am! to make the arrangements run smoothly.
