CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.

The following is the Corn Exchange repot t (per N. P. Mbybks, Secretary) for the week ending Friday, April 3rd, 1891 :— The grain market has been somewhat interfered with by the Easter holidays. The weather continues fine and threshing operations may be said to have closed, except m caseß where growers have thatched down, and with the object of waiting for higher prices later on. Wheat is enquired for and prices rule firm at quotations ; whilst buyers are not over anxiouß to operate sellets show no inclination to make any concession. Oats — The market shows no sign of animation, the few sales made being for local consumption. Barl*y— No prime samples efiering, second quality meets with no enquiry except for pig feed. Beans are taken for exporc at quotations. Blue Prussian peas command full rates if hand thrdßhed, other lord entirely negleoted Grass Seed— Bye has seen little business. Oooksfoot is tafe if of good color and weight, bat light and discoloured parcels are difioult to place. Potatooi— Kidneys are unsaleable ; derwents are ~be??r }'.ng to find a few speculators for •delivery when ripe at 25s to 27§ 6d at country stations within twelve miles of the port. Quotations as follows :— Wheat— Tuscan, 3s 8d j pearl, 3s 6} ; hunters, 3s 5d ; second quality, 3s Id to 3s 2d ; broken, 2s 6d to 2s 9J» Oatß— Milling, la 8d ; short feed, If 6d; inferior and long, Is 3d to Is fid. Barley— Prime malting, 3a 3d j second quality and feed neglected. ; Peas— (Blue boilers}, 3s ; feed, 2s 4d. Beans, 2i6d. Grass Seed— Rye, machine-dresied 5s to 5s 64 ; farmers' parcels, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; cocksfoot, 4£ to sd. Dairy Produce— Butter, factory 8d ; farmers' keg, 6d to 7d. Cheese, small loaf shape, 4£d ; larger sizes, 2Jd to 4d. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., at Lyttelton ; lacks extra.
