IMPORTANT MINING DISCOVERY.

It is not generally known that a very important discover? has lately keen made a lew miles across the Victoria ( order, anil one that gives indication of being a second Mount Mmv gau. The locality is at Jindora,in the range- about eight miles from Adbnry and within easy access from Melbourne. The Mount is 800ffc high, and gold was first found in the small gutters descending the sides. The hi iders were tempted to try the top of the mount, and opened a large excavation or quarry 3Cft feet by about 13ft wide, and the whole of (he earth taken from the opening was found gold-hearing. A small shaft was sunk 15ft deeper when richer deposits were revealed. Prospecting has been carried on round the sides of (he mount, and everywhere gold is to be found, the yield varying from 2dwt to 2nz to the 'on. Even the very stones lying on the surface whiju crushed have yielded good returns. In cutting atreudr at the bottom of the hill for the purpose of conveying water to the dam, two important and highly payable reefs have been cut, and as these reefs come down the sidcoflho hill, the inference is that the whole hill is auriferous. On the plateau below excellent alluvial wash has been found within the last few weeks, thus showing that gold has be»n freely washed down from the hill- The stone is easily worked, being al inert entirely decomposed nnindic, and crushes easily. The chiim, which emsistsof 105 acres, is owned by a private company of six Melbourne gentlemen, and is called the Soudan. About a mile from the Soudan is another important discovery and one which pronri-es to rival the famous Long Tunnel The claim is called the Bangownmrah. A reef of 12ft wide was found on the surface, and has been proved to a depth of 57ft where it has opened out to 22ft between two well-defined walls. The " hole of this reef is expected to average I per ion. Trial ciushings have gone loz to doz. The reef has been proved GOOit along the surface, and eaJi of the t’ial shafts have given returns equal to the main one. If the reef govs down payable fora oth t 50ft a mine of immense value will be ■proved. A tunnel has been run in from the si lo of the lull and interseeled the shaft. The mine can be worked very cheaply, and a fifteen head battery is boi..g erected. The contour of the country is similar to that of tho boudan, but at the Bangowumah the reef is web defined, whereas rn the Soudan it is entirely different. The auriferous area so far discovered i- not very oxter sive, being about two mrcs in length and half a mile in width —‘ Age.’
