Thus says the 1 Sydney Bulletin’ : —•* The medical man who looks after the health of the Hobert people is a gentleman of somewhat vigorous turn of mind. A new arrival by one of the Home steamers relates that when the ship reached Hobart the health officer came alongside in a boat, and inquired after the health of the passengers. ‘ All well,’ replied the captain; ‘wo had only one case of smallpox on board and the patient is now fully recovered.- ‘lf that’s the way with you,’ roared the mod'oal man, ‘get up steam at once, and to with yon out of this.’ ‘And did the ciptain "boy the order?’ ‘ He did,’ replied the new chum, sadly; ‘he took us right on to Now Zsai land.’ ” A dastardly attempt to wreck a train on i the Molbourne-Geelnng lino has been i brought to light. Early on the morning of I the4th inst. a ganger engaged surveying 1 the lino discovered that the fish plates of • one of the rails had been tampered with, s i and an attempt made to remove the rail ! \ just at a point whore the line crosses a ) , deep culvert. Eo doubt if not discovered , I there would have been a disastrous acoi- ■ ' dent. The police discovered that the toots t which had been used were stolen. They hope to bring the culprit to justice.
