DUNEDIN v. CLYDE AND CROMWELL A pleasant and interesting match took place on Friday night last between six players chosen by Mr David R. Hay, of Dunedin, and the same number selected by Mr J. E. Stevens, from the Clyde and Grom well districts. They were paired as follows : Dunedin. Clyde & Cromwell. Win?. Draws. Wins. 1 D, R Hay... 0 J. E Stevens. 0 1 J. Monat ... 0 E. A. Cogan. 0 1 W, S Angus 0 J. Holmes ... 0 0 D. A. De Mans 1 D. A. J011y... 0 1 W. B. Eyre 0 H. Behrens... 0 1 J. Wright ... 0 W. Corbett... 0 5 T *0 The town players proved rather strong for their opponents, but many of the games were extremely critical and interesting. Mr Henry Allen acted as umpire for Cromwell, end Mr Spence H. Tnrton for Uunedin ; bnt, happiiy their services were purely honorary, as all the arrangement passed wiahoat a hitch. Great credit is due to Mr W. Heney, the operator at this end, for the wonderful accuracy and despatch in transmitting the moves, not a single error having occurred throughout. The players are grateful to Mr J, K. Logan, tho inspector, for placing his room at their disposal, and also to Mr A. D, Lnbeoki for facilitating all arrangements. Play commenced at 9.20 p.m„ and was concluded at 3.30. a.m.— “Evening Star.” ‘ ' - ' ■ ■

[Whilst all credit is given to Mr Heney, the telegraph operator at the Dunedin end, we deem it but justice to add tha* Mr Holliday and his assisant at the Cromwell end are also deserving of every credit- for the great interest they took in the game, ami for the remarkable accuracy ' with which they transmitted the play from their end.—Ei>.
