A DOCTOR CENSORED.
At an inquest at Christchurch on tho 4lh inst. On a seven months’ child named Florence Elizabeth Cook, it appeared that tho child had died from suffocation induced by a bad cold. Drs Russell and Deatner were sent for about 5 o’clock in tho morning, and both declined to attend. Tho latter ia an old man, and said ho was nearly dead himself. Dr Russell gave as his reason for not attending that ho had been called to scores of such cases and never been paid hia foe. Ho had lately restored a child from drowning, and had nob even been thanked. Had Ibo fee been offered him he would have attended, though ho did not in this instance ask for hia fee as it was usual for medical men to do. Tho jury returned a verdict of “Death from natural causes,” and added as a rider : “ That if Dr Russell had attended, in all probability the life of tho child might have been saved, and his conduct was deserving of tho severest censure.” One juryman dissented from the rider.
