CONCERT AT CLYDE.

On Friday evening last, the 23rd insl., the concert in aid of the funds of the

Church of England Vestry took place, and was in every respect a success, the Town Hall being well filled, visitors putting in an appearance Jfrom all parts, Alexandra sending a contingent fully 40 strong, Mea lames Lothian and Wingfield opened the procee - ings with a pinaforto duet, which was given in a brilliant style, and very favorab’y. received. The Choral Society followed, and gave “ The Oarnovale ” in a manner tb it showed Mr Stevens had spared nothing to en mre th< ir contributions being a success. In the absence of Mr Austin, Mr P. Williams kindly came forward, and rendoied “Beauty Sleep ” in his usual creditable manner, and in response to an encore gave “ Tho Tar that o’er the Ocean Sail.” Mr W. Hues ton made his debut as a vocalist, and gave “Jack’s Coine Home ’ very creditably, the audience applauding loudly for a repetion, which was responded to. “ Fair Fl<ra Decks," by Messrs Hartliy, Stevens, and Maogeo ge, was well received, as was a'so Miss Naylor's “Hearts and Homes,” the rendering of which caused a very favorable impression of this lady's vocal abilities, Mr Williams was quite at home in “ Sailing,” and in responding gave the sister song “ Steering Home ” in a manner that fairly elipaed (if possible) bis previous numbers. Messrs Hartley aud Macgeorge sang “The Moon has raised her Lamp,” very nicely. Mrs Shaw’s appearance was tho signal for a general outburst of welcome, and on completion of “The Murmur of the Shell,” this lady was greeted with such prolonged applause that is seldom heard in any hall, and as an encore gave that pretty Scotch ballad “Ye Banks and Braes.” The Choral Society again rendered good service, and brought the first part of the programme to a close.

After a short interval Mesdamea Lothian and Wingfield performed a piano duet in very creditable manner, which was followed by the Choral Society rendering “ O Bird of Eve.” Mr Hartley received well-merited applause for the manner in which he gave “My Pretty Jane,” and in respone “The Reign of the Roses ” met with approval. MrMaogeorge sang “The Shilling” in a very masterly manner, and was encored. Mr Stevens again wielded the baton, “Awake iEoliao Lyre” being the item. Mr Williams again took the number allotted to Mr Austin, and gave “ Lovely Woman in so humorous a style that fairly brought down the house, and responded yvith “ Miss Hoologan’s Christmas Cake ” in an equally successful manner. Mr J, S. Hickson being unavoidably absent, Miss Najhjr came to the rescue with “ O’er the “ Blow, blow, thou Winter Wind,” was gone through successfully, while Mr William’s item, “To Aims, - ’ was a rare musical treat, and elicited a hearty encore, to which' he responded with “ Tell, 1 Love Her So.” Mrs Shaw was as successful in “ The Living Dead ” as she was in her number in the first part of the pro gramme, and in response to a call sang “ Tired.” The National Anthem brought the proceedings to a close, but before dispersing, Mr Fraser, on behalf of the Vestry, briefly returned thanks to the lady and gentlemen who had so ably assisted in the evening’s entertainment. Wa had almost forgotten to mention that Mfesdames Lothian, Keole, and Stevens acted as accompanyists throughout the evening, and gave entire satisfactionIn a very short time the hall was cleared, and dancing kept up till a Sate hour in the morniug.
