A SUCCESSFUL SURGICAL OPERATION. The American Ambassador at Vienna, M. Kasson, has lately forwarded to his Government an interesting account of a remaikable surgical operation lately performed by Professor Billioth, of Vienna, which, wonderful to tell, consisted in the removal of a portion of the human stomach, involving nearly one third of the organ—and, strange to say, the patient recovered—the only suecessful operation of the kind ever performed. The disease for which this operation was performed was cancer of the stomach, attended with the following symtoms : --The appetite is quite poor. There is a peculiar indescribable distress in the stomach, a feeling that baa been described as a faint “ all gone" sensation; a sticky slime collects about the teeth, especially in the morning, accompanied by an unpleasant, taste. Food fails to satisfy this peculiar faint sensation ; hut, on the conti ary, it appears to aggravate the feeling. The eyes are sunken, tinged with yellow ; the haddsand feet become cold and sticky—a cold perspiration. The sufferers feel tired all the time, and sleep does not seem to give rest. After a time the patient becomes nervous and iia-itable, gloomy his mind being filled with wil forebodings. ‘When rising suddenly from a recumbent position there" is p. dizmng's, . whistling sensation, ho js oßli«fid_ la grasp something firm to keep ffq|n fal'inra The bwels costive, fbs ildnfry andlhof al times ; the blood nant, and does not' circulate /properly. After a time the patient spits uj# food soon after eating, sometimes in a sour and fermented condition, sometimes sweetish to the taste. Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the heart, and. the patient tears he may have heart disease. Towards the the patient is unable to retain any food what ever, as the opening in the intestines becomes close, or nearly so. Although this disease is indeed alarming, sufferers with the above named symptoms should not feel nervous, for nine hundred and ninety-nine cases out of a thousand have no cancer, but simply dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if treated in a proper manner, The safest and b°st remedy for the disease is Seigel’s Curative Syrup, a vegetable _ preparation sold by all chemists and medicine vendors, and by the proprietors, A. J. White, (Limited), London, England. This Syrup strikes at the very foundation of the disease, and drives it out, root and branch, out of the system. •
Waterloo House, London' Stile, Chiswick, February 17, 18S2. Messrs. White and Co , Lon dob. Gentlemen,—it is with great pleasure that I add my tes'.imony to the wonderful effects of “Soigel's Syrnp.” For years 1 have been suffering from biious attacks, which began with giddiness ; then a mist would come before my eyes, so that I should not be'able to recognise anyone, or anything at a distance at a yard or two from my face. This would be followed by excessive trembling of my kiiees, so th 11 could not stand without support; afterwbicb a sovereheadache would occur lasting over two or three ■days. I have tried various remedies for these distressing symptoms, but until 1 tried “ Seigel’s Syrup ” 1 had no relief. Since then I have have had oxoeent health ino ■every respect, and if ever I fed a headache ■coming on I take one dose of the Syrup, which arrests it. Hoping that this testimonial may be the means of inducing others ■(who suffer as I used) to try tie Syrup, as 1 feel sure iney will receive speedy benefit and ultimately be c ired, I beg to remain, ’yours faithfully, A.H.Hortob. • ' September Sih, 1883. Lear Sir.—l find the sale of Soigel’a Synin steadily increasing. All who hava tried it speaks very highly of its medicinal 0 -virtues : one customer describes it as a “Godsend to dyspeptic people.” I always recommend it with confidence.
