TO THE PUBLIC. SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulness and modesty to personally consult a medical man—other patients have not the self possession and coolness when in the consulting room, toaccurately describe their symptoms—their habits of life, and the nature of the disease L ora. Let such persons (hefor she) sit quietly down m tha( prijfiioyiof their own apartments, iuidvw/thcflm minds describe deadly of their case, a clear statement thusN written, and laid before me, is 1 far preferable in nervous diseases to *a personal consultation. "Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary ; but rcy success in corresjioudence is so great, that of the thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by letter during the last 32 y ears, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in fact, the very simplicity of ray system of correspondence prevents publicity. A t the same time medicines are sent to j;.y patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to 1 How many have been enabled to enter into the marriage state through consulting me 1 ?
How many after marriage have privately consulted me and been blessed, and their iparxiecl lives made fruitful and happy. - » How many wasted ruined yonths of both sexes have also been restored to health, and thanked their manhood, for having consulted me by letter. How many questions arise where the family physician is unable to uniavcl the case, and where often the patient lingers on, not daring to tell his family medical adviser the nature of his complaint, until consumption wasting, or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond the curable stage, and is left a hopeless Wrpck, A. letter written in the privacy, of the room and dropped into the post box reaches me quietly; the answer is returned as quietly and unostenta* tiously, and the patient, without stepping from his chamber, except to post his letter, is by return of post put in full ncssessiou of the nature of his case, His hopes arc raised, his doubts re* moved, and he is comparatively a new man ; in fact, in many cases, a new being p.ltogeiher.
The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing more. The usual consultation fee ot LI (one pound) must be enc osed, otherwise no answer will be leturned. There are thousands of cases in daily lif® where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyfut on receipt of an explanatory note from me.
To those who are about to marry I would say consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, and remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices; to those, moreespecia’ly who have suffered in early years from disease, or who have yielded to their passions. To these I say, at once, consult with me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an export, my Lime may not always be at your service, you can, by simply en clo'-ir g one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner as if I lived in your own town, and with the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOUIS L. SMITH.
