A TYPICAL CALIFORNIA MURDER.

About two years ago David Mish. a young Hebrew, began to pay court to a’Miss'Sdhiiltz, with!- whom he, be. came completely infatuated, and by whom his love was seemingly reciprov cated. Subsequently a rival to Mish appeared in the person of Dr James A. J. M‘Donald. The woman was secretly married in July last to the doctor, although she did not inform Mish of her marriage, but, on the contrary, continued to receive him as a lover until when, he learned of her marriage through" a 1 third per son. On the evening of January 20 Mish called at the residence of the ; M‘Donalds for the purpose, it is supposed, of asking the woman to return to him a diamond ring and other articles which he had given to her when the course of their love ran smoothly. Shortly, after his entry into the house a police officer was attracted to it by the report of a pistol, and while ascending a staircase leading to the M‘Donalds’ lodgings lie saw the prostrate form of. Mish, who was dying, and unable to articulate, from the eSects of a pistol wound iu the region ot the heart. "Whoa arrested, M‘Donald confessed his guilt, and stated that he shot his victim because he had insulted Mrs M‘Donald. The murder was a peculiarly cowardly one, as Mish was unarmed and retreating down the staircase when M'Donald shot him. Murders of this class are becoming alarmingly frequent iu California. There are now fourteen men confined in the San Francisco gaol awaiting trial for murder:— “Otago Daily Times’ ” American correspondent.
