Diseased Nature oftentimes breaks forth iu strange eruptions.”—Act iii, Scene!. TO THE PUBLIC.
SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulness and modesty to personally consult a medical raaia—other patients have not. the self /obsession and coolness when/ jtEv thc« msultiag room, to accurately in ptoms—their habits offeJpe,/arid the nature of the suffer fora; Let sucli persons (hi or she) sit quietly down in the privacy of their own apartments, and with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of their case, a clear statement thus written, and laid before mo. is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation- Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character,, a personal consultation may become necessary; but my success in correspondence is so great, that of the thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by .letter during the last 32 years, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in fact, the very simplicity of my system of correspondence prevents publicity. At the same time medicines are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to? How many have been enabled to enter into the nuuriago state through consulting me! How many after marriage have privately consulted me and been blessed, and their married lives made fruitful and happy. How many wasted ruined youths of both sexes have also been restored to ] health, and thanked their manhood, ' for having consult®*! me by latter. j How many questions arise where ■ the family physician is unable to wn- ' lav. 1 the. cafe, and where often the ! pah-nt IlnrrcTS on, not daring to tell his family medical adviser the nature of his complaint, until consumption wasting, or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond the curable stage, and is loft a hopeless Wreck. A. letter written in the privacy of i the room ami dropped into the post box reaches ms quietly; the answer is -.etnrncd as quietly and unosteutas tiously, and tho patient, without stepping from his ch ‘inner, except to post iiis letter, is by return of .post put in full iiossession of the nature of ids Case. His Lopes arc raised, his doubts re» moved, and he is comparatively a now man; in fact, in manyctscs, anew being altogether.
The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing more. I he usual consultation fee ot LI (one pound) must be one used, otherwise no answer will bo iclurned. There are thousands cf cases in daily life where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyfut on receipt of an explanatory note from. me. To those who are about to marry I would say consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, and remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices ; to those, more especially who have suffered in early years from disease, or who have yielded to their passions. To these I say, at once, consult with me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an expert, my time may not always he at your service, you can, by simply en closing one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner as if 1 lived in your own town, and with the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, tvu' , LOU lb L. SMITH.
