IltlE LATEST AMBB CAN ISVESTiOr THE VICTORY OEJE Since Electricity baa heenfipplied for Hating pu-p <»8», •all effo'ts of inventors have teen directed to construet a lamp for genera! domestic use. THe reason why this problem has till now not hoen solved, is that none of the inventors could rid themsalve's of the idea of gas lighting, and that all have had adhered to the system of producing the Electricity' in' some ■ centra* place, or by large machinery, instead of first laying down the principle that a Lamp which should ever become generally useful and popular, mutt he portable, like an 'Oil Lamp, and contain the generator of E'ectricity in itself, i. e., in the foot of the Lamp. The Norman Electric Tight Co. has at last succeeded in completely realizing this ideal of Electric lighting, and there is no doubt that this most important invention will bring about a complete revolution in all branches of lighting. Our Electric Lamp needs neither Machinery, Conductors, nor any expensive outlay, and is neither complicated, nor dis« ■agreeable in manipulation; -all that is necessary is to refill it every four or five days with acid. The cost oj lighting will he as cheap as gas (three fourth cents per hour) ani it has before the latter the immense advantage of neither producing heat, smoke nor carbonic acid, owing to wh ch the air is not impured, and remains at the same degree of terai>erature. It is further, absolutely inodorous, and does not need to he kindled by march, or otherwise, hut simply try turning the key, thus avoiding all danger of lire, explosion or suffocation, as in the cose of gag, if the key is left open ; and it must he conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable, It is further preferable to -any known kind of lighting for the follow•mg reasons.;— (1.) Ts manipulation !:-! so simple that any child can keep it in order. (2.) That the Lamp is portable, and can he removed like any Oil Lamp, from one pine? to another. (3 ) That it neither -cquites the disagree able fixing of the wick, or the cleanin'! of the cylinder, as in .the case of other Oil Lampa. . ~ (4.)' That the light produced is - n soft and most steady one ; that it never Bickers, an 1 the flame, though being equal in power-of lighting to gas, can be tegulated to any do--gree. ■ 1 ' (5.) That every danger nf fire is a’sfiute'y excluded, as the light will extinguish im nediate'v, if by any accident the g'ass currounding the burner should be broken. (6.) That it will burn, oven in the strongest wiitd, completely unaffected, thus 1 eing invaluable for illuminations, lighting -of pardons, -oorriders, etc. This t amp is constructed for the present in three different sizes :
