DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Committee Room, Town Hall, on Monday, the loth iust., at 8 p.m. Present—Messrs B. Naylor (President), Attfiebi, Cambridge, Holt, Jeffery, J. E. S’evens (Treasurer), and Geo Fache (Secretary. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and received. Visiting Committee’s No. 2 report, recommending payment of accounts for salaries and supplies for the past month amounting to L 55 5s sd, was read and received. The Treasurer’s report, showing a credit balance of L 6 4s Bd, was read and received. The Surgeon’s report was read and received. Mr J. Holt was re-elected member of the Visiting Committee. There being only one application for the offices of wardsman and matron, it was decided to extend the time for receiving applications till the 7th December, and the Secretary was instructed to invite fresh applications by advertisement in the “ Witness,” “ Daily Times,” and Dunstan Times.

The question arose as to the cause of but one application for the office. After discussion, the opinion expressed waa that the salary offered was too small, and that being generally believed in, it was resolved that the salary to be offered be at the rate of LB4 per annum. The V isiting Committee stated that Mrs Knox was anxious and desirous of getting away by the end of the current month, she having accepted a position as housekeeper to her brother-in law. The Committee were instructed to make the best arrangements possible till the appointment of a new wardsman and matron.

After some discussion, during which each member of the Committee agreed in saying that the somewhat sudden decease of the late wardsman Mr Knox, was deeply to be deplored, as both he and his wife during the five years they had been under the Committee had performed their duties in a highly satisfactory manner, and regret was expressed at having to lose the services of Mrs Knox, and as in a measure to acknowledge past good serivees. it was resolved that a bonus of L 5 be given to Mrs Knox on the occasion of her leaving the Institution. The meeting then closed.
