Some months ago a youth named George Massey, aged 19, employed as a clerk in the office of a solicitor, London, was found lying upon the floor of the office shot through the head, with a recently-discharged revolver by his side. He was removed to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, and it was there found that the bullet had entered the skull and lodged in the centre of tbe brain, there being a terrible wound in the forehead. He was unconscious, and apparently in a dying state. The house surgeon, on examining him, expressed an opinon that the case was hopeless,and that the sufferer could scarcely be expected to survive very long. Subsequently, however several efforts were made to extract the bullet, but without au • cess, and then to the astonishment of the medical staff the patient within a few days regained consciousness and I e s >an to recover in spite of this, however, but they nevertheless watched the cise with increasing interest, and adopted every possible means to prevent a fatal termination. Within a fortnight of the occurrence the patient had progressed so far that be was removed from the accident ward. He could then s peak in a rational manner, and was iu no pain, Re newed efforts were made to extract the bullet, but they were unsuccessful, and the attempt was given up when it was seen that the patient made rapid progress. The youth has now been discharged from the hospital as convalescent, bat the ballet still remains embedded in the centre of the brain and the medical men have abandoned all hope of being able to extricate it, ‘
