Margaret Brown was arrested yes teiday in connection with the South Dunedin murder. She was brought up at the Police Court and remanded.

The High; Hon. Hugh Childers_addressed a meeting of his constituents at Pontefract last night. In referring to the Colonial question, he stated that he hailed with pleasure the approach of Federation, and expressed the hope that the forthcoming Intercolonial Exhibition would facilitate the discussion of the matter by leading colonists. Lord Carrington, Governor elect of New South Wales, starts for that Colony on the 26th, The Marquis of Landsdowne, Go* vernor General of Canada, has expressed the opinion that the fiscal interests of Canada are incompatible with anv scheme for their joining in Federation. The English Government are therefore in favor of existing relations being adhered to. The semi official journal 1 l)e St. Pe.ersburgh ’ in an article on the Bulgarian difficulty, expresses the opinion that owing to the claims advanced by the minor states, it will be found advisable to uphold the integrity of the Treaty of Berlin.
