On the evening of Fiiday, September IS, Mr A. Purves gave bis entertainment entitled “Iwi Hours at Hame,” in the schoolro m here. Mr Purves had a bumper house, and it speaks volumes for bis ability when he can single handed succeed in entertaining and thoroughly amusing an audience for two hours. A Scotchman’can certainly obtain m re enjoyment from Mr Purves’ entertainment than any other natio ality. but all are highly satisfied, and I recommend anyone in search of an evening's amusement to hear Mr Purves when he visits P en-locality. The weather has been very cold and changeable lately, which male ic a late -pring. Very little crop of any sort in the ground just yet, and everything in the shape of vegetation in a very backward state.

All extraordinary amount of sickness has prevailed here lately, attributable no doubt to the unseasonable weather. As a consequence, Dr Hyde, of Ophir, has been very busy in this direction for some time.

There is. and has been for some time, a plentiful supply of water for mining purposes, and claims all in full work with more cheering .accounts from 'inegar Flat. The construe’ion of a main tail race for the purpose of working this ground necessitated a great outl y both of capital and labour, and for some time the returns were very poor, so it is satisfactory to notice a change for the better. The ground is very heavy, and it will take time to propel ly open it up.
