THE VINCENT COUNTY ROADS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir— Person* who have much travelling to do on the Vincent County ro.ids, were rather anrprised at the late action of the County Council in reducing thu amount of the rates. Vincent Comity ia very favorably situated with roipect to road-making, the ground generally being of so hard and dry a nature that in many caaea milea of road merely required forming in order to become fairly passable. But this system ia only of temporary benelit, for in course of time the ground gets cut up by traffic, forming dust holes in summer, and in the winter time becomes a masa of sludge. During the winter the unmetalled portions of the roads have been in a most disgraceful state, and the only remedy ia by an expensive system of gravelling, and under these circumstances it would have been good policy on the part of the County Council to have retained the old rates until such time as the roads were put in a permanent state of repair. One thing is certain, that unless the County is prepared to incur a considerable expenditure on its roads, instead of being held up as the model County in a few years’ time it will hold the unenviable position of tho “ Shocking Example.”—l am, etc, July 15th, 1885.
