A SUCCESSFUL SURGICAL OPERATION.
The American Ambassador at Vienna, Mr Kasson, has lately forwarded to his Government an interesting account of a rema kn» hie surgical operation lately performed ny Professor Billioth, of Vienna, waich, wonderful to tell, consisted in the removal of a portion of the human stomach, invoking near y one third of cue ,-irgan—and, strange to say, the p lient recovered—the only successful operation of thekind ever perform -I. The disease for which this operation was performed was cancer of the stomach, a - tended with the following eymtorns : The apootius is quite poor. There is a peculiar imlescriba de distress in the stomach, a fed. ing that has been described as a fains "all gone" sensation; a sticky slime online.a about the teeth, especially in the morning, accompanied by an unpleasant ta te. F ol fails to satisfy this peculiar faint sensation ; hut, on tnecoiitiary, it appears toaggrav i a the feeling. The eyes are sunken, tinge I with yellow ; the haddsaud feet become c l and sticky—a cold perspiration. The »uff rers feel tired all the time, and sleep does not seem to give rest. After a time too patient becomes nervous and irritab e. gloomy his mini being filled with °vil forebodings. When lismg suddenly from areciinnent position there is a dizzme s, a whist ing sensation, and he is obliged to grasp something tinn to keep from failing, t'he bwels costive, the skin dry and hot at times ; the blond becoming thick and stagnant, and does not circulate properly. After a time the patient spits up food soon after eating, sometimes in a sour and fermented coalition, sometimes sweetish to the taste. Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the heart, and the patient tears be may have heart disease. Towards the last tc.o patient is una'-le to retain any food wha; ever, as the opening in the intestines becomes close, or nearly so. Although this disease is indeed alarming, sufferers with the above named symptoms should not fe d nervous, for nine hundred and ninety-nine cases out of a thousand have no cancer, but simply dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if treated in a proper manner. The safest and b“st remedy for the disease is Ssigel s Curative Syrup, a vegetable preparation sold by all chemists and medicine vendors, and by the proprietors, A. J Vi bite, (Limited), London, England. This Syrup strikes at the very foundation of the d sense, and drives it out, root and branch, out of the system.
