Diseased Nature ottentimes breaks forth in strange eruptions.”— iii, Scene 1. TO THE PUBLIC.
SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulness and modesty to personally consult a medical man—other patients have not the self possession and coolness when in the consulting room, to accurately describe their symptoms—their habits of life, and the nature oi the disease they suffer f om. Let such persons (he or she) sit quietly down in the privacy of their own apartments, and with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of their case, a clear statement thus written, and laid before me, is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary j but icy success in correspondence is so great, that of the thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by letter during the last 33 y ears, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in lact, the very simplicity of my system of correspondence prevents publicity. At the same time medicines are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to 1 Eow many have been enabled to enter into the mu,triage state through consulting mo 1
How many after marriage have pri vately consulted me and been blessed, and their married lives made fruitful ■and happy. How many wasted ruined youths nf both sexes have also been restored to health, and thanked their manhood, for having consulted me by letter. How many questions arise where the family physician is unable to uutavi l the case, and where - oltca the patient lingers on, not daring to toil his family medical adviser the nature cf his complaint, until consumption wasting, or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond the curabl. stage, and is left a hopeless Wr. ck. A hater writ eu in the privacy of the room and dropped into the post box reaches me quietly; the answer is returned as quietly and unostentatiously, and the patient, without stopping from his ch ; tuber, except to post bis letter, is by return of post put in full possession of the nr. cure of ids case. His hopes are raised, his doubts removed, and lie is comparatively a new man ; in fact, in many c ,st-s, a new being altogether. The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing more, ihe usual consultation foe ot LI (one pound) must be enc osed, otherwise no answer will be leUivned. There are thousands of eases in daily life where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyfut on receipt of an explanatory note from me. To those who are about to marry I would say consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, and remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices ; to those, more especially who have suffered iu early years from disea: e, or who have yielded to their passions. To these 1 say. at once, consult with me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an expert, my time may not always be at your service, you can, by simply enclosing one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner as if 1 lived iu your own town, and witn the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOUIS L.
