DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The nsual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was held n theC’ommittee Room, Clyde Town Hall, on Monday, the 16th inst.. at 8 p ra. Present—Messrs M. J. Macginniss (in the chair), Holt, Attfield, Cambridge, J. E. Stevens (Treasurer), and Geo. Fache (Secretary) The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read, received, and adopted. The Visiting Committee reported that everything was now working satisfactory in the Hospital. For a time, however, the Surgeon, a’so Wardsman and Matron, had had occasion to complain of the conduct of Patient Perris, who is suffering from locomotor ataxi; he had since apologised, and the complaints were withdrawn. Mr G. Fache was appointed Secretary for the current year at a salary of L2O per annum. Mr Hickson (Vice-President) and Mr Jeffery here entered the room. The President briefly welcomed Mr Hickson, and was pleased that he had accepted the position of Vice-President. Ou the motion of Mr Jas. Holt it was resolved— 1 hat each member of the Commit, tee be supplied with a subscription list and be empowered to receive subscriptions and donations. The Visiting Committees Ho. 2 report, recommending payment of accounts for salaries and supplies for the past month amounting to L4B 3s 21 was read and received. The Treasurer's report was read and received. Surgeon’s report was read and received. Messrs Attfield, Holt, and Miles were elected members of the Visiting Committee, one to retire each month. The President said that from time to time the (jnestion had cropped up as to the collection of fees from paying patients There was no doubt, he said, but many took advantage of the Institution who could well Herd to pay the small fee demanded, 30s per week, but who, when cured or relieved as the case might be, walked oif without paying anything; and, moreover, well known that those who used the institution were amongst those who gave nothing towards its support. It was neither the Burgeon or the Wardsman’s duty to demand payment, and he thought’ someone should be hold responsible for the collection of the fees. He would not press the question now, by the next meeting members individually would be able to think over the subject, till when he would suggest it be held over. Mr Fache thought it would be detrimental to the true interest of the institution to lay down any hard and fast rule, though he admitted every patient on his or her discharge should be presented wilh an account and asked for payment, and, moreover, in ad oases where it was known that the recipient of relief was in a position to pay, that if necessary, pressure should be brought to bear to compel payment. The question here dropped, it being agreed to renew it at next, meeting. Resolved—That the Secretary arrange fir the printing of the annual report in pamphlet form as usual. ■ The meeting then closed.
