A SYDNEY MYSTERY
A romantic episode in connection with one oi the mem ers of the Permanent Force is current. Some few months hack a soldier named Wallace was missing from the barracks, Search was made for him, and at length his body, indentifiod chiefly by his uniform, was found floating in the . sea near Botany Bay. An inquest was lielu, and an open verdict was given. As he had a goon record m his company, he was buried wiilx mili- .,~. ~ , „ , tary honors, and his untimely fate was regretted by lus comrades. to his great astonishment, the rings and other mementoes of his own decease, so kindly forwarded by hiscom- 1 rsdes in arms. .The key to the mystery is that Wallace and a friend exchanged clothes, and that the former treated himself to a holiday surrenti* tiousljy. But howtheyoung man who was buried with a warrior’s rites came by his death, will probably be a mys« tery until the great roll is readiTown and Country.
