Diseased Nature oltentmies breaks forth in strange eruptions.”—Act iii, Scene 1. TO THE PUBLIC.
SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulness and modesty to personally consult a medical man—other patients have not the self possession and coolness when in the consulting room, to accurately describe their symptoms—their habits of life, and the nature of the disease they softer f om. Let such persons (he or she) sif quietly down in the privacy of their own apartments, and with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of their case, a clear statement thus written, and laid before me is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary ; but my success in correspondence is so great, that of (he thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by letter during the last 32 years, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in fact, the very simplicity of my system of correspondence prevents publicity. A t the same time medicine-* are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to 1 ? How many have been enabled to enter into the ma.xriago state through consulting me ? How many after marriage have pri vately consulted me and been blessed, and their married lives made fruitful and happy. How many wasted mined youths of both sexes have also been n stored to health, and thanked their manhood, for hiving consulted me by letter. How many questions arise where the family physician is unable to unravel the ciSe, and where often tin 1 patient lingers on, not daring to teli his family medical adviser the u (tun; of his complaint, until consumption wasting, or nmnt.il diseases set in, ami the sufterer gits beyond the cttrabl stage, and is left a hopeless Wp ek. A letter written in the piivacy of the room and dropped into the post box readies me quietly ; the answei is returned as quietly and nnostenta* tinusly, and the patient, without stepping from his ch ituber, except to post his letter, is by return of post put in full iios.ses'ion of the a« tore of nis case His hopes are raised, his doubts removed, and he is comparatively a new man; in fact, in many c'.ses, anew being altogether. The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing more. I ilic usual consultation foe oi Li (one ! pound) must be e.nc used, otherwise no answer will be returned. There are thousands of cases in daily life where a consultation witli one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often selves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyfnt on receipt of an explanatory note from mo.
To those who are about to marry 1 would say consult me i eforo doing so. and thus prevent many alter tiouhles, and remove many unnecessary lours and jnejudicos ; to those, more especially wlio have suffeied in early years from disea e, or who have yielded to their passions. To those t say, at once, consult with me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as.au expert, my time may not always be at your service, you can, by simply enclosing one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner as if 1 lived in your own town, and willi the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOtlS L.
