CROMWELL V. CLYDE, On Saturday last, 31st January, the above , clubs met for the first time this season on the Clyde ground,. In conseSnence of the short time for arrangements, ie ground was not in that condition as it otherwise would have been had there been more time to prepare the pitch! but under the circumstances a fair pres p ired. The Clyde team were the first to handle the willow, but with the exception of Keele, Hogan, Stevens, and Siminonds, did notouake much of a stand, the innings plosingjtts 85 Cromwell’s first innings was a procession of batsmen from the pavilion to thaf wickets, Dav’daon alone reaching double ' figures, owing to _ the excellent biwling of Thomson and Miles, backed up b/ good fieldjog, and when tho Iwi wicket t ,11 the telegraph showed a I ont for 39. Simmonds and McConnochie started the second innings of Clyde, but Maingay (who did not play in the first innings) proved too much for the local team, Thomson, Simmonds, and Hogan alone reaching double figures, their second attempt reaching the small total of 64. With 112 to win Cromwell started well, and succeeded in getting the" runs with the loss of only 2 wickets, Turton, Davidson, Cogan (not not), and Howell (not out) playing good cricket, the latter making the winning hit just on tune.
