Diseased Nature oftentimes breaks forth in strange eruptions.”— Act iii, Rppri p, 7 TO THE PUBLIC, SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from slieer bashfulness and- modesty to personally consult a medical man—other patients have not the self possession and coolness when in the consulting room, toaccuratelv describe their symp°toms—their habits of life, and the nature ol the disease they suffer Lom. Let such persons (he or she) sit quietly down in the privacy of their own apartments, and with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of their case, a clear statement thus written, and laid before me. is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation. Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary j but my success in correspondence is so great, that of ihe thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by letter during the last 32 years, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public —in fact, the very simplicity of my system ofcorresp.n lence prevents publicity. At the same time medicine* are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection.
How many thousands have I not brought joy to? How many have been enabled to enter into the hnuiiago state through consulting me} ° How many after marriage have pri vately consulted me and been blessed, and their married Jives made fruitful and Imppy. How many wasted ruined yontha of both sexes have also been restored to health, and thanked their manhood fir hiving consult'd me by letter. * How many questions arise where the family physician is unable to u n . lavel the C iSe, and where oltea the patient lingers on, not daring to tell lus family medical adviser the nature of his complaint, until consumption wasting, or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond the curable stage, and is left a hopeless Wi-ck. A. letter written in the privacy of the room and dropped into the post box reaches me quietly; the answer is returned as quietly and unostentaK tions.y, and the patient, without stem ping from Ins cb miber. except to post lus letter, is by return of post putin lull possession of the nature of his case. His hopes are raised, his doubts removed, and he is comparatively a new mau ; in fact, in many cases, a new being altogether. The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing mote. Hie usual consultation fee ot Li (one pound) must be one o*ed, otherwise no answer will be leturned. Ibere are thousands of cases in daily life where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyfut on receipt of an explanatory note from me. To those who are about to marry I woiud say consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, and remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices ; to those, more especially who have suffered in early years from disea c, or who have yielded to their passions. To these 1 say, at once, consult with me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an expert, my time may not always bo at your service, you can, by simply enclosing one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner as if i lived in your own town, and wild the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOUIS L. SMITH.
