CROMWELL BPRfNtt RACES. ■ This was'tho' thir l meeting'of the season, and was inevery respect an improvemeut onritg predecessors. One point in its favor doubtless is that all the accessories are pretty well perfect, thigrand stand, with ira many conveniences for both the comfort ot -’the public and the managers if .the meeting, are everything to he desired'; the pood, commodious, and arte saddling and, horse paddocks are an attraction to owners of horses, whilst the comfort and convenience of investors on the totalisator which, by the hye, is the property of the olnh, -Was well attended to. However, the working of the machine was to have been improved on. This fault, if fault it really he, can be rectified with a little more e*perience. The coarse Was in splendid order, with a -close spring green turf, a groat contrast to the dry arid tracks at Alexandra and Clyde. The racing, if we may except the hur le race, was par excellence, hut horses sometimes wi 1 not jump without many baulks and much persuasion, and that wis limply the case with the race iir question All the other events were run on their merits, the fastes- horse in eaon ease pulling off the stakes. In the Hack S Ring Race Knickerbocker Sam he Tmi King—winning was a great surprise to all, except, per-h-m, to the two Im-ky investors on the t % lisator, out of a total ht 99, and who pocketed L 45 each. The Sprint Handicap was also a surprise, the idea of Mataura and Magic making a dead heat, never being thought of.
