He had conieired with Mr Evans, hoping to in nee him to' change his mind, but faun I him through private reasons determined to go. In consequence, be had t'ken upon himself lo call for applications in the various local papers and Dunedin paper* for the office so that the Council would be able to deal with tho ma'torthi meeting, lie would also ang. gist that tho bond required hvtho C u .cil on engagement of clerk and collector 1 e reduce" from L 750 to LSUO, as ha thought that quite sufficient security. Mr Mackellar moved, and Mr Macs inn is seconded— “ That Mr Evans’s letter cove - ing Ills resignation he received, an t Unit Lj bo informed that the Council receives his ,esiguation with regret, behaving conducted t he business of tho Council during the past t wo years to their entire satisfaction ; end t hat the Chairman be requested to convey L bo sense of this resolution to Mr Evans in ratable terms.”—Car tied unanimously, -
