There is quit« an excitement .on the Old Man reefs just now, and . enquiries for shares and scrip are to be heard in every direction, but whether it is to Vie traced to the late find in White Company’s claim, or not we cannot say. White s scrip 2s paid up are being enquired for at 2s 3d, but 2s 6d are seller’s prices. 500 shares in the Welcome Company, or 1-32 of the Company, on which 30s is paid up, changed hands at L 5. We did hear that a 116 was sold for L2O, but since we have heard it contradicted. The next sale is the half of Wookey and Gavan’s claim, which was sold for LSOO, Mr D. H. Mervyn being the purchaser, and Mr Wookey the seller. Regarding the find in White’s Reef Company's claim, the manager reports having struck good stone in the end of the tunnel. The reef is 24ft. thick, and carries gold right through it, the prospects. being equal to those got on the surface ” As the end of the tunnel, is about below the level of the old workings, and some 50ft, furth r from the surface, making in-all 160 ft from the surface, it is evident the prospects of the Company may be classed as Al. A meeting of the shareholders of the Old Man Gold Mining Company, late Welcome’s, was held at Alexandra on Monday evening last, when rules for regulating tho working of the Company, were adopted, and Messrs Butler, Lythgoe, Quayle. Biker, Dickie, Gibson, and C. Holden, were elected directors. This claim is bound d by Lythgoe and Grey’s, Wookey and Gavan’s, an-l White’s Co., therefore if position is anything to go by, it stands well.

The management of White’s Company claim is,, we hear, altered, Mr Neale the hist manager, either being deposed or resigned, and Mr Andrews who had charge of the Advance Company’s claim, taking his place. We do not know whether this arrangement is to be permanent.

The half-yearly meeting of shareholders in White’s Reef Company will be held in the Company’s Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, the 9th mst., to receive report and. balance-sheet.

A meeting of shareholders in the Advance Company will be held at Alexandra on Monday eveiing next to receive manager’s report, and to consider what next step to be taken.
