WASTE LANDS BOARD.

We taki the following items of local interest from the report of the proceedings of the Waste Land Board last week : Run 223 1, Matmherikia.—Mr W. L. Simpson, for the executors of the late J. Glaasford, applied for a pre-emptive right of 320 acres on Run 223a.—Resolved—- “ That the Board sees no reason to alter its previous decision in the matter.” Lander.—The Board considered a memo, from the Under-Secretary for Crown Lands in reference to a recommendation made that Mr B. Naylor might be allowed to surrender his license of deferred-payment section 17, block lIL, with the view of offering the land for sale by anction, with valuation added. Whitburn applied for a lease of the water at Sylvan Lake, Dart district, about 10 miles north of Lake Wakatipu, for piacicnltnral purposes, T The members of the Board spoke favourably of the application, bat determined to obtain a report from Ranger Adair before granting, a lease of the lake. . Unsold Lands.—The Chief Commissioner requested the Board to consider the matter of dealing with the following blocks recently surveyed—viz.:—Blocks XIII, XV, and XVI, Biackstonc ; IV an-'. XII, Tiger Hill; II and 111, Poolburn ; and XV, Maniototo.—The following resolution was minuted :—“ The Board is of opinion that one-fourth of the land should be set aside on the perpetual leasing system, one-fourth on the deferred-payment system, one-fourth for agricultural leasing, the remaining fourth in the meantime to be reserved from sale. The Board desires to state that if the Cen. tral railway were made in this district the land would fetch at least double the price it will fetch without the railway. Village sites to be reserved near proposed railwaystations and in other parts of blocks.” (jower Hawea—On the application of Mr W. L. Simpson, the Board reconsidered the application of W. Gair to capitalise his holding, sections, block VII, Lower Hawea.— The Board had previously refused the application, and the Clerk again explained that three years’ rent was at present in arrear. The Board, however, ascertained that the lessee'had been cultivating and improving his holding and granted the application.
