Mecjjeorge.- Starve» Mr A R Maekay. Handicapporaii Mem* Attfield, Campbell, and Jeffery. , . ' The Summer Meeting under-the .mjrriagemeut of this Club, took- place on , the Dunstaa Racecourse on Friday andßaturday last, the 4th and sth inst., but froth the fact of it being as it were at the tail of the hunt only eight days after Cromwell Race Meeting, *2 days aft“r the Alexandra Galea donian Gathering, and one day after the Matakanui Racing. Carnival, it was iu no one sense so successful as the very good programme provided warranted the committee of management in thinking it would be. It is evident that the jamming of all the local sports and games into the apace of from a week to ten days, is a mistake, and we think it ( will be well for those in each district into; whose hands fall the management, beforeanother festive season comes upon US- to take the subject into their serious consideration, so as to prevent a clashing or inter-., ests. Every one of the meetings referred to suffered from the fact of them following' so closely on the heels of each other, ana we feel assured if the same thing is repeated next year all will come in for far harder knocks than they have this year. Prom the Cromwell district visitors were specially conspicuous by. their abseuce, as also could be said of Matakanui, ana from the fact that the hacks having been weeded oat at the two meetings, the numbers entered to compete for the prizes specially provided for, them were limited iu "umber, the number of competing horswrfbf the other event* were faifly good, and their-liooeat running m a measure cpiqpennted for other drawbacks and made the . meeting enjoyable to thou who-wdre preterit. *The newly erected post-and rail ’ ferico enclosing *lhe grand stand saddling and hone .paddocks, added much to the comfort «f horse owners and the. publie.' and-'the general management at the meeting by the steWarda-'Vas perfect in every, detail during the .two -days meeting; Messrs Solomon and Murrell, pt Cromwell,' manipulated the totalisator, a hitch, - and'tjfie boethf'nride'r'' , thd' l of Messrs Dickie - and M‘o»undohie, gave general satisfaction. i( lu respect ‘ to the" running, With. but one exception, every race, so far as we could see, was run fairly -and honestly. The cap will doubtless find someone whom it will tic, and should they again visit a Dunstan Racing Club meeting it will be well that they, whether as v-wner or rider, keep from the crooked ways they indulged in. Below are appended the full details of each event:
