The club evidently desirous of making the day as enjoyable as possible had provided eve.y comeatable luxury, the stand was well stocked with everything to be desired in the form of eatables and drinkables under the man ement of Mr James Lawrence, a fmit stall presided over by Mr Tmnblyn, a toialisator operated on bv Me.-s s Solomon and Muriel), and many o her devices wherewith to wile away the time between the va i nis events, whilst the horse owners had liberally come to the foie in entering good tic ds of horses. In so far as carrying out the meeting. the stewards were au fait to their s-para e duties, leatLig nothing un one, and as everything woi ked as smoothly as possible, there was no ground for complaint in any direction. At the start Shula Grab went away with the lead, with the others well up, for halfa mile, when Doric came up to the leader and a neck and neck race ensued for fully quarter of a mile, when the giey showed signs of distress and fell bach. Lilac taking his place. Boots here came through the lot, and on coming up to Sbula Grab and Lilac a g«od race ensued.Boots passing the winin'rig post by a head, half a length separating second and third. The totalizator showed 183 investors, which declared a dividend of L 4 4s Cromwell Derby, a sweepstake of 5 sovs each, with 50 sovs added by the Club. For three-year-olds bred in Vincent, Maniototo, and Lake Counties. Derby we ghts—Colts, Bst 101b; Fillies, Sst 6!h. No allowance for geldings. Second horse to receive 20 per cent, of the gross stakes, and the third horse to save his stake. Distance, one mile ami a-half. (9 subs) Mr C.
