AN ALARMING DISEASE AFFLICTING A NUMEROUS CLASS.
The disease comm"nces wi'h a slight derangement of the stomach, but, if neglected, it in lime involves the whole frame, embracing the kidneyß, liver pancreas, and in fact the entire glandular system j and the i'fflictei drags out a miserable existence till death gives relief from suffering. The disease is often mistaken for other complaints ; but if the reader will 6sk himaelf the following questions he will be able to determine whether he himself is one of the i.fßicted :- H.ive I distress, pain or difficulty in breathing after eating ? la the>e a lull, heavy feeling, attended iiydiowsinast? Have toe eyes a yellow tinge? Does a thick. sticky mucous gather about the turns and teeth in the mornings accompanied by a disagreeable taste? is th? tongue coated ? Are there pains in the sites and buck? Is there a fu'ness about the right side as if the liver were ema'giug? Is 'here cos iveness? Is there verigo or dizziness when viiin l suddenly from a horizontal position ? Are the secretions from the Kidneys highly coloured, with a deposit, after stanlin;;: IJoe" food femeut soon afiier eating, a-c mpanied fl itulence or l> 'chin; of g-s from the st.maeh ? fs there frequent palpitation of the hear' ? These various symptoms may not be present at one time, but they torin nt the'tinff-rcr in turn as the dreadful disease progresses. If .the ease be one oi loiii! standing, there will bo a dry, hj 'eUinp cough, attended after a Uaxn by expe'etora* tion. In very advanced stages the skin a S'ime3 a dirty brownish ap iearance, and he hinds and feet are covered by a cold sticky perspiration. As the liver an I kidneys tie ome more and more diseased, rheumatic ; ains appear an 1 the usual treatment proves entirely unavailing against this litter aaonising disorder. The origin of this malady is indigestion or dyspensi i, and a small quantity of the proper m-di-ine will remove ihe disease if taiceu in its incipieney It is most important that the disease should be promptly and proyerly treated in its first stages, when a little medicine will effect a cure, and even wh'-n it ha 3 obtained a strong hold the correct remedy should be p rsevered in until every vestago of the disc ise is eradicated, until the appetite has returned, and the digestive organs are res:ored to healthy condition.
